PARIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Students looking to further their education as they seek majors related to the medical field are encouraged to apply for a local healthcare organization’s scholarships.
According to a news release from the Horizon Health Foundation, the organization offers scholarships with varying rules and eligibility.
The Doc Acklin Scholarship will be awarded to two graduating seniors from Paris Cooperative High School with $1,000 in assistance. Each student must embody the character traits of the late Dr. James Acklin which are scholastic ability, participation in athletics, and character. The Acklin scholarships are funded through proceeds from the yearly Doc Acklin race.
The PCH Volunteers’ Scholarships are created through volunteer donations and will offer two $1,000 scholarships with different eligibility requirements. The first will be available to any Edgar County high school graduating senior, the second will be available to any full-time or part-time Horizon Health employee.
The Nursing Foundation Scholarship is available to two applicants that are currently enrolled in, or have been accepted into, a nursing program. The $500 scholarships are funded through donations made to the Nursing Twilight Walk, The Nursing Honor Guard Program, and private donations.
The Dr. Leland Phipps Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Horizon Health employee who is looking to further their education in the healthcare field. The scholarship may be awarded as two $500 scholarships or a single $1,000 scholarship dependent on the winning applicant’s needs.
The EMT-Basic Certification Scholarship is awarded to two people and covers the full cost of an upcoming EMT-Basic Certification course sponsored by Horizon Health. These scholarships are available to applicants of at least 18 years of age, who reside within Horizon Health’s primary service area. The scholarship covers the course, as well as the required background check and drug screening.
