TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Fans of the classic Wallace & Gromit films and television shows can soon see a hands-on exhibit in Terre Haute.
The Terre Haute Children’s Museum will be hosting the Wallace & Gromit™: Get Cracking! exhibit starting on January 20.
The exhibit, which was created by a partnership between W&G production company Aardman and the Minnesota Children’s Museum, will be available to experience throughout most of the spring with an end date of May 19.
The Terre Haute Children’s Museum credits the generosity of CenterPoint Energy for making the exhibit possible for Terre Haute residents.
Visitors will get the opportunity to be hands-on with the north England home of the cheese-loving inventor Wallace and his loyal friend Gromit.
“In Wallace’s world, inventions and contraptions often go terribly – but hilariously! – wrong, providing a natural opportunity to explore themes around problem-solving and resilience in a safe and lighthearted manner. Through a mix of unique and meaningful experiences, the exhibit focuses on STEM-based problem-solving, with the aim of making the problem-solving process explicit,” A THCM news release reads.
Some of the highlights of the exhibit include;
- Set the dining room for tea and launch porridge from a cannon
- Fix the broken Autochef
- Activate the Get-U-Up device
- Design your own cracking contraption
- Blast off in a rocket to the moon
- Hop into Preston’s truck to travel to the village
- Grab a seat and cozy up to read a book
Members of the museum will get a sneak peek at the event a day early on January 19 from 4:30-7 p.m.. During the event, there will be a number of additional activities with at least one providing a prize of Wallace’s favorite Wensleydale cheese.
Opening weekend for the public will also feature extra festivities with science demonstrations and activities taking place in the exhibit on January 20.
Admission to the exhibit is included in general admission. Museum admission is $9 per person for ages 2 to 102. Museum members get in FREE. Tickets are available online here.
