SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: At least one resident has been displaced after a fire in a single story home in Sullivan.
The call went out around 10 a.m. Tuesday for a fire in the 400 block of South Stratton Street. Sullivan Fire Chief Rob Robertson said when firefighters arrived the back of the home was engulfed in flames which then spread throughout the house.
Robertson said a resident was home when the fire occurred. She reportedly told firefighters that she had been taking a shower and as she got out she noticed smoke coming under the door. The resident was able to escape safely.
When asked about a cause Chief Robertson said they cannot rule out that it was caused by an electrical issue. The home is considered a loss following the blaze. Firefighters remained on scene until about 1:30 p.m.
Sullivan City Fire Department was assisted by Thunderbird Fire in responding to the incident.
