TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two Sycamores have been recognized by Indiana State University for their efforts by being given major awards.
The Hines Memorial Medal is an award named after ISU’s fourth university president Linnaeus Hines, who served from 1921-1933. The medal is given to students who entered ISU as first-time college freshmen and complete their bachelor’s degree with the highest cumulative grade point average.
This year the school awarded Ryann Shea Porter the Hines Medal. Porter is graduating from ISU with a degree in Elementary Education and is originally from Mansfield, Ohio.
The Daniel J. Bradley Medal for Leadership, Scholarship and Service is an award that is considered one of the highest honors at the university. The award is given to a student who represents all three aspects, leadership, scholarship, and service. The award recipient must also graduate with 3.0 or higher grade point average.
“The service component is representative of the student being highly involved with community service and experiential learning at the University or in a community. The recipient would have served in multiple capacities of long-term leadership roles at ISU and/or in a community,” an ISU news release reads.
This year’s recipient of the Bradley Medal is Holly L. Coffelt, a Terre Haute native who is earning a degree in Music Education.
