PARIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Officials with the Illinois Department of Public Health have reportedly been in contact with public school officials in Paris in regards to grant funding.
This comes on the heels of the district dealing with claims of misappropriated funds from the state earlier this year. The organization has since entered into an agreement with the state department of education to repay much of the funding.
In the lead-up to those allegations the FBI searched the home of Superintendent Jeremy Larson and later in June the district placed Larson on paid administrative leave. The school board then named Lorraine Bailey as acting superintendent.
According to the Acting Superintendent, district 95 central office staff met with officials from the IDPH on the first of the month for an audit review in regards to five grants the district had with the governmental organization.
Bailey said that at the request of the IDPH, staff submitted documentation regarding those five grants. Three of which have now expired.
Bailey added that the two which remain active have had the grant funds frozen as talks continue. Staff reportedly answered questions from IDPH officials during the meeting as well.
“IDPH Staff present at the meeting said they would take the information back to review with their department and get with the district for the next steps. No Timeline was provided, but they indicated it would at least be after the first of the new year,” Bailey said.
