TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A locally-owned family-run restaurant is continuing to grow both in business and in family.
Co-owner of Lucia’s Taqueria, Devinie Dominguez, talked a little about her family’s journey and their efforts to bring new flavors to the community, while the current youngest member of the Dominguez family, and the restaurant’s namesake, 4-year-old Lucia, sat next to her in their family’s second restaurant.
“We’ve been doing this since April of 2022. We started as a food truck. It’s been hard, but it’s been really successful. We’re grateful for where we’re at today, and that we’re able to share with the community and give new taste to the community,” Dominguez said.
While the new location has been open for a few weeks, with 4 daughters and another one on the way, the Dominguez family has put in a lot of effort to bring family recipes to the people of Terre Haute.
“It’s from my hands, it’s from our family,” Dominguez said when discussing how their love of food and flavor inspired the family to open their initial food truck.
The family’s newest restaurant, Lucia’s on 3rd, is located at 1803 N. 3rd Street, and Dominguez noted the choice in location was to expand their access to the north side of the city and to serve the community and workers in that part of town.
“It’s a little more quicker service for the area hospital and the businesses around us. Communicating with the people, getting to know new people and new faces, but we’re trying to figure things out still,” Dominguez explained.
While the menu at Lucia’s on 3rd is still being updated, there are still popular and well-known menu items, like the Friday Quesabirria deal, offered at both the new 3rd. Street location, and at the first restaurant location, Lucia’s Taqueria at 30 North Brown Avenue.
