TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In education news, Ivy Tech of Terre Haute welcomed more than 250 West Central Indiana Middle School students for a college visit.
The event aims to inspire students to explore potential careers and prepare for their futures. Throughout the day on Friday, students gained insights into the college experience, they were able to learn strategies for academic success and career readiness, and they got a chance to discover how Ivy Tech can help them reach their goals.
Ivy Tech Terre Haute’s Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Services, Leah Allman, said this makes an impact for years to come.
“We hear some years out that this program does make an impact. It sparks interest for what they might be interested in so they explore a little bit deeper. We have college connection coaches in just about all of the area high schools so once they come back to the high school as a freshman. They can explore deeper,” Allman said.
Allman also said they’ve been hosting middle school students for this event for about 25 years.
“We need our local students to stay local. We need them to get a skill or an education and Ivy Tech is such a great place for them to begin that after they finish high school and in fact they can complete some of the Ivy Tech courses both in the technical field and in the Indiana College Core through our dual credit program while they’re in high school for free,” Allman said.
