LINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Thanks to the BISSELL Pet Foundation, the Greene County Humane Society will be participating in the national Empty the Shelters — Holiday Hope event.
According to a release from the Greene County Humane Society, the BISSELL Pet Foundation is a national welfare organization committed to ending homelessness for pets, will sponsor the event and give potential adopters a discount.
“Our nation’s animal shelters need your help as they face an overcrowding crisis unlike anything we have experienced in more than a decade. The devastating increase in owner surrenders and stray intakes has left tens of thousands of deserving pets desperate to find a home,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation.
The reduced adoption fees will result in $50 or less per dog and $0 for cats throughout each participating shelter. The event will run from December 1 through December 17 and will be hosted in over 380 shelters across 43 states.
The Greene County Humane Society will be participating in the Empty the Shelters — Holiday Hope event and its hours are Monday to Saturday from 11 AM to 4 PM and until 7 PM on Fridays. They welcome appointments as well as walk-ins and encourage pre-approval of applicants.
While the Empty the Shelters — Holiday Hope event is going on throughout the month, the humane society will also have a Christmas event. The Paws and Claus event gives pet owners the chance to bring their pets to take a photo with Santa, and there will also be free hot chocolate and cookie decorating. The Paws and Claus event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on December 2.
Those interested in adopting and participating in the Empty the Shelters — Holiday Hope event can visit the Greene County Humane Society’s website for more information and to begin an application.
