TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Hosted by Home Instead for the third year in a row, the Be a Santa to a Senior program has kicked off for the season.
Home Instead aims to collect over 150 gifts this year for local seniors who may not have anyone to celebrate with during the holidays. The Be a Santa to a Senior program includes trees set up around the community that are decorated with ornaments that have the name and wishlist of a senior in the community. Those who would like to participate can choose an ornament, purchase the gifts, and then drop the gift off unwrapped and with the ornament attached at the same location as the tree.
“The holidays can be hard for many older adults, especially those who may not have a companion to share them with,” said Marie Lane, client care coordinator at the Terre Haute Home Instead office. “Through Be a Santa to a Senior, we can help these seniors experience the happiness and togetherness the season can bring.”
People can pick up ornaments from November 1 to December 5. After that, the gifts will be delivered to local seniors across the community.
“Gifts aside, the true value comes in the connection Be a Santa to a Senior makes between the community and our older neighbors,” said Lane.
The Home Instead office serving Terre Haute has partnered with Amedisys and Gentiva to help with the collection and distribution of donations.
