TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)–Musicians from around the country performed at Rose-Hulman’s White Chapel Sunday as part of an ongoing free concert series.
Artist-in-Residence Clare Longendyke was joined by violinist Timothy Kantor and cellist Nicholas Mariscal for the show Sunday afternoon. Kantor has performed in world-renowned concert series and is a member of the Afiara Quartet coming from Arizona, and Mariscal is an active member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra after being appointed earlier this year.
Longendyke said she was excited to bring in these musicians for students and residents around the area.
“Part of my role as artist-in-residence at Rose-Hulman this year is to steward the artistic and musical culture at the institute, and that means bringing incredible players from around the country and around Terre Haute to the discovery music series here,” she said.
This is part of the second “Discovery Music Series” at the university, and she believes it can showcase the best music– both here locally, and nationally.
“It is critical to engage with our audiences in spaces that take classical music out of the concert hall, and expose them to not only the great talent happening in Terre Haute, in the state of Indiana and around the country, but also the works and creations of fantastic classical music composers from around the world,” Longendyke said.
