SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana State Police along with the Sullivan Sheriff’s Department visited Sullivan Elementary School as part of Red Ribbon Week.
Red Ribbon Week is when local law enforcement comes to schools to talk about safety, bullying, and other drug and violence prevention. Sullivan Elementary will also be doing “spirit days” all week, where students will dress up in different ways to promote a drug-free lifestyle. Students kicked it off Monday with “Wear your best red outfit.”
Sergeant Matt Ames said it’s a great way to connect with the students.
“It gives us an opportunity to maybe have a one-on-one basis with the students. Allows them to see us, they can come up and they can talk to us. And they know that if anything is going wrong they can approach any police officer out there because we’re here to help them,” Ames said.
