CRANE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Veterans getting the benefits they earned from their service can be a tedious process, but thanks to a local fair, those in need can get some assistance.
There can be hoops to jump through and many places to go in order to get everything they need. This fair was a one-stop shop for all veterans to get everything they need.
Rick Ramirez is in public affairs for Veterans Health Indiana, and he explains how helpful this fair can be.
“The veterans are excited about this because they can come to apply for VA health care. They can file a disability claim, they can also talk to the other veteran organizations that are at this event. They get everything under one roof and don’t have to worry about parking, traffic, or anything like that,” said Ramirez.
Events like these are something that you almost can’t put a price tag on. There are so many resources and people here that can help them in many ways.
United States Army Captain, Rex Boonyobhas, explains what he thinks is important about these events.
“I feel like this is a really important event to enable the veterans to gain information, network, partner, and understand what their benefits are,” said Boonyobhas.
One local veteran explains another great reason an event like this is crucial to have available.
“You might be dealing with something that you don’t realize is actually linked to your service in the military. The VA is there to help you get through it or improve your life at home with your family,” said United States Army veteran, Cody Walton.
Walton ensures that the one-on-one connections you get by doing these things in person are what makes it all worth it.
“The one one-on-one with individuals, you can see the emotion on their faces, and they can see the emotion in your face. It’s just a great resource that needs to be utilized,” added Walton.
For those who missed this event, there will be a VA benefits resource event at the Terre Haute VA clinic on Saturday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
