ST-MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Community members celebrated the legacy of those who built what would become a historic district in not only Vigo County but the country.
On Monday morning, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and Sisters of Providence celebrated the unveiling of a historic marker on campus.
It recognizes the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods historic district and its place on the national register of historic places.
It’s an exciting moment for the college and Sisters of Providence who look forward to welcoming students and the community for years to come.
“Sixty-six buildings on this campus have been named part of that district which you know we’ve known forever that they’re historic, but now this is just really for me a symbol an indication of, or an invitation to the community, to the Wabash Valley, to come see us,” said Sister Dawn Tomaszewski, General Superior of the Sisters of Providence
Brennan Randolph the interim president of the college said the gates and gatehouse were recently restored.
New students are welcomed through those gates every August.
