TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An annual ranking of engineering schools has placed Terre Haute’s own Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at #1 once again, marking the school’s 25th straight year topping the list.
That’s according to U.S. News, who placed RHIT at number one on their list of undergraduate engineering colleges in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges Guide.
The organization surveys college deans and faculty across the country when determining the rankings with a focus on bachelor’s and master’s level engineering programs.
Rose-Hulman outscored a total of 272 colleges in the category, including Harvey Mudd College (California), Olin College of Engineering (Massachusetts), and the United States’ Army, Naval and Air Force military academies.

The school also topped three sub-category lists as well in civil engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. The computer engineering program was ranked at third.
“Recognition like this reaffirms our longstanding belief that Rose-Hulman is a unique institution, producing graduates with outstanding problem-solving skills and innovative and entrepreneurial mindsets,” Coons added. “Though our primary focus is not merely to attain such recognition, it does serve as validation of the impact of the efforts of our outstanding faculty and staff, and the tangible benefits of a Rose-Hulman education.”
