TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After an unoccupied, mystery vehicle partially submerged in the Wabash River was reported once again to local authorities earlier this week, an update on the future of the vehicle has been discussed.
According to Terre Haute Fire Department chief Bill Berry, multiple local emergency and service organizations are aware of and have checked the vehicle previously.
“Our department, along with police agencies and our local Conservation Officers are all aware of this vehicle. Conservation Officers have checked the vehicle and it is unoccupied,” Berry wrote. “They are also planning on removing it in the near future.”
There is little information about the vehicle as it’s been submerged upside down.
“Lately the TH Fire Department has been dispatched to a car upside down with its tires out of the water in the Wabash River,” Berry explained.
Berry also noted that while plans are being made to remove the vehicle from the river, they’ve taken precautions to help prevent repeat reports, and to increase visibility for boaters in the area.
“In the meantime, our firefighters have spray-painted the exposed parts of the vehicle orange to show that “this” vehicle has been checked in the past. The orange paint also serves as a safety tool for boaters to navigate around this vehicle,” Berry said.
