HYMERA, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Hymera held one of their city’s richest traditions on Saturday.
The Seafood Fest is now a 41-year tradition for the residents of Hymera. This festival consists of the Hymera Ruritan Club serving all different kinds of seafood and sides.
They also have a car show, craft and food vendors, a parade and live music. All of the proceeds from this will go to wherever the community needs it, including scholarships, donations to the beta club, the Sullivan County 4H club and schools.
The original owner of the Jonah Fish Fry started this event because he wanted a way to incorporate the whole town in a celebration to support local businesses and enjoy great seafood of all varieties.
One of the main contributors to this festival is the Ruritan Club. They host the seafood dinner and have their members serve and clean up along with many other things as well.
Ann Case is the president of the Ruritan Club, and she explains the true meaning of this Hymera tradition.
“The thing that we love the most about this is that it brings the community out to work together for a common cause.”
Jonah Fish Fry will host the Pike County Girl Scouts to a dinner on September 1st.
