VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man appeared in Vigo County Court Wednesday where the date of his attempted murder jury trial was confirmed.
According to court documents, John L. Bell is accused of shooting three of his neighbors at Willow Crossing apartment complex in Terre Haute on August 22, 2022. Police reported finding a total of 12 shell casings in the common area as well as inside Bell’s apartment located on Sweetwater Court in Terre Haute.
Court records indicate that Bell appeared in Vigo County Superior Court 1 for his final pre-trial conference related to the incident Wednesday. During the conference the court confirmed Bell will appear before a jury for trial at 1 p.m. on July 24.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, Bell was arrested in Chicago on September 12, 2022 by U.S. Marshals. He was then extradited to Indiana. According to jail records, Bell has been held in custody at the Vigo County Jail since that time.
