SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Sullivan County Long-Term Tornado Recovery Coalition reminds people that Wednesday, June 14 is the last day to apply for federal assistance.
They urge people to apply for help from FEMA and also the Small Business Administration Disaster loans. That way you can maximize the federal assistance you get.
Tierney Pollard, the Coalition’s Supervisor of Disaster Case Managers, said the SBA loan is easy to apply for.
“You only need your id and a cellphone and if you don’t have those, they’ll work with you to make that happen,” said Pollard. “If you have insurance but you haven’t got a payout yet, but you need to pay contractors or pay to have your house rebuilt, you can get the SBA loan and since it’s non-accruing, you can pay that off as soon as you get your insurance payment.”
People can register for FEMA and SBA at the Disaster Recovery Center at Sullivan City Hall. It will be open tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and again Wednesday, June 14 is the last day to register.
People can also call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362, go to the Disaster Assistance website, or use the FEMA app.
For the SBA loans people can also visit the disaster recovery center, or they can call the SBA helpline at 800-659-2955 or visit the SBA disaster website.
Meanwhile, officials in Crawford County, Illinois are also reminding tornado victims of some important deadlines. While Crawford County was denied FEMA funding there are options for assistance. The deadline to apply for the Illinois Association of Realtors grant is July 1, and the deadline for people in Crawford County to apply for an SBA loan is July 3.
“We just encourage anyone, if you have a friend or family member that had a loss during the storm, if they need help, these are resources. Then, our community is also pulling together to do other grants and other opportunities so please reach out,” said Resa Shaner, Executive Director of the Crawford County Development Association.
Shaner says people in need of assistance are asked to call crawford county emergency management a 618-546-5602.
