CRAWFORD COUNTY, ILL. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local companies are stepping up to assist victims of the March 31tornado in Crawford County, Illinois.
To date, the United Way’s tornado recovery fund has received over $120,000 in donations, according to a statement. That does not include donations to the county and local churches.
The Hershey Company in Robinson recently donated $50,000 to the United Way of Crawford County’s Tornado Recovery Fund, which supports residents who suffered losses due to the storms.
“All of us at The Hershey Company stand in solidarity with our Robinson community in the aftermath of the devastating storm,” said Robbie Nethery, Director of Manufacturing at the Hershey Robinson Plant. “We hope this contribution helps in the recovery and rebuilding efforts, and we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the first responders, United Way of Crawford County, local organizations, and the many individuals who are working tirelessly to support the community during these extraordinary times.”
Huck’s of Robinson recently donated $10,000 to the United Way Crawford Tornado Relief Fund.
David Renshaw and the Robinson Dairy Queen donated 100% of its sales from one day last month – $7,523.33 – to the United Way of Crawford County Tornado Relief Fund to support those who had been impacted.
The Vistra Newton Power Plant donated $10,000 to the recovery effort.
Wendy Thompson from The Vinyl Destination created and sold enough t-shirts to make a $5000.00 donation. You can still order one online here.
And, the congregation at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church held a pancake and sausage breakfast to benefit the survivors of the tornado devastation in Crawford County. The parishioners raised $5,000 in just 4 hours.
The United Way says Crawford County has not been notified by FEMA whether or not victims there will receive disaster help for the damage caused by the tornado.
