WEST VIGO, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Some local high school students are getting to experience what it’s like working in the manufacturing industry.
Students in West Vigo High School’s CTE classes are in the process of building planter boxes.
Each class operates like a different shift which helps the students communicate and work together like they would in the workplace.
Freshman Andrew Kidwell says he really enjoys this class.
“We’ve done definitely a lot in here. We’ve built planter boxes, coasters,” Kidwell said. “We built that big saw table in the back so definitely we’ve done a lot in this class.”
The class will then sell the planter boxes for $40 dollars a piece. The money raised goes right back into the classroom to purchase materials for future projects.
“This gives kids the opportunity to work with their hands, see an actual project come together and in the end, they’re able to showcase what they can do,” said David Basan, manufacturing construction teacher.
