SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb gave an update on rescue and recovery efforts Sunday evening.
In a news conference, Mayor Lamb said that all missing residents have been accounted for within the city and county. Sullivan City Hall will now serve as a resource center for residents.
The Sullivan County Community Foundation has received over $20,000 in donations through an account at the Wabash Valley Community Foundation (WVCF). The foundation has established the account for monetary donations that will go toward tornado recovery.
Displaced residents have begun seeking housing vouchers. The mayor is pleased to report that those vouchers are working and still available. Residents in need of housing assistance should contact city hall to apply for the vouchers.
A laundry trailer will be arriving to the Sullivan County EMA office on Wednesday to help displaced residents clean their laundry.
State and federal officials have been in touch with the mayor. Lamb said that the White House checked in with him Sunday.
The FEMA preliminary assessment is complete. With that assessment completed, the city can now utilize volunteers.
“Even though things seem to be starting to improve, we’re starting to get things streamlined. At the same time there is still a lot of need for help,” Lamb said. “There is still a huge demand. And I can’t reiterate this enough, not just today, but for the coming weeks, the months and even the years ahead.”
Volunteers will be utilized beginning Monday morning. To volunteer, Mayor Lamb asks that you report to the Sullivan Civic Center at 8:00 A.M. All volunteers must be signed in, logged and documented.
