VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A student is in custody following threats made to Otter Creek Middle School.
In a statement sent to parents, the Vigo County School Corporation said that a student had made threats to the school Friday.
Officials said the school went on “secure status” for about 20 minutes as the source of the threat was found. Vigo County deputies placed the juvenile into custody off school grounds.
The school reiterated that there is no present danger or threats to the school following the arrest.
Good afternoon this is a message for Otter Creek MS parents and guardians. The VCSC would like to report that a threat to the school was made this afternoon. It’s important to note that the school was put on secure status for about 20 minutes until the source of the threat was located. That individual is now in police custody. The individual was not on campus. We continue working with law enforcement but there is currently no threat to students, faculty or staff. Again there is no current threat to the school or students.
Statement sent to Otter Creek Parents/Guardians from VCSC
According to Terre Haute Police Sgt. Ryan Adamson, the situation began after a student was suspended Thursday for making threats against the school. Friday, the same student continued to make threats, this time on a social media platform.
The threats were to harm staff at Otter Creek. THPD located the juvenile, took them into custody and charged the student with felony intimidation. The student has been taken to the Vigo County Juvenile Center.

Yesterday, an Otter Creek Middle School student was suspended for making threats against the school, which was being investigated by the Vigo County School Corp. Today, the same student made threats on a social media platform to harm staff at Otter Creek. Today, THPD was made aware of this and immediately started an investigation. THPD located the juvenile and continued the investigation. The student was ultimately charged with felony intimidation and transported to the Vigo County Juvenile Center
