VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: As of 2:30 p.m. Duke Energy reports that the large outage affecting the western side of Vigo County has been restored. Spokesman Rick Burger added that Sarah Scott Middle School is still without power, and crews are attempting to restore power to various areas of Terre Haute.
Interim Communications Director of VCSC, Katie Shane, commented on the impacts of the weather on some local schools:
As a result of today’s weather, especially high winds, power was temporarily out at a small number of Vigo County Schools. We appreciate the faculty and staff at those schools for working through the inconvenience, keeping students safe, comfortable and without interruptions to their classes. We thank Duke Energy for continued communication and quick work to restore power.

Original: More than 3,000 Duke Energy customers are listed as being without power in Vigo County including West Vigo High School, West Vigo Middle School, and an elementary school.
According to the Duke Energy outage map, the outage extends to the western side of West Terre Haute and covers customers from there to the state line. The website says the outage was due to extreme weather in the area.
Duke Energy Spokesman Rick Burger said crews are assessing the damage and working to restore power.
Reports of downed poles due to the weather have caused numerous outages throughout the Wabash Valley.
At 1:33 p.m. Vigo County Central Dispatch put out an alert saying multiple reports have come in of traffic signals either being without power or flashing. Area drivers are asked to treat these intersections as 4-way stops until normal service is restored.
