POSEY CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, a man wanted for murder in Colorado was arrested in Posey County Friday morning.
Around 10:23 a.m. on Jan. 6, ISP attempted to make a traffic stop on I-64 due to a driver reaching speeds of 86 mph. Troopers attempted the stop but the driver continued to speed heading east and eventually reached 90 mph before losing control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway, and rolling several times before coming to a stop in an open field.
The driver, Shawnathan Deangelo Chance, 26, of Dunn, North Carolina, was revealed to be driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Wheat Ridge, Colorado, may have been involved in a Jan. 5 homicide, and is a suspect in the homicide. Chance was not injured and was taken into custody.
Chance has been arrested for probable cause of the homicide and was transported to the Posey County Jail where he will be held for Colorado authorities.
Chance has been charged with the following:
- Murder (Being held for Colorado)
- Resisting law enforcement
- A level 6 felony
- Possession of a stolen vehicle
- A level 6 felony
- Reckless driving
- A class B misdemeanor
