TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local family will be “home for the holidays” thanks to support from the community.
Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity held a home dedication and housewarming today for Jessica Branz and her family.
A three-bedroom house was rehabilitated with the help of The Hometown Savings Bank. The bank offered financial support, and its employees also volunteered as work crews for the site.
Habitat, which gives their home buyers a zero-interest mortgage, means a lot for Branz who is a first-time homebuyer.
“I just feel super blessed and it’s Christmas time, so not to sound cliche, but we’ve tossed around it being a Christmas miracle for us so, it’s real nice,” said Branz.
“The people out there who have homes, you know what it’s like to have a home. You know what it’s like to not worry about the rent going up, to not worry about maybe you have to leave your house,” Chuck Norman, board president of the Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity said. “These are owners. It’s very important. That’s the American dream, to own a house.”
Wabash Valley Habitat for Humanity says over the past 30 years it has built 73 houses in the area.
