SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sullivan County residents now have a new, convenient, way to get information from their local government.
County Clerk Tonya Bedwell says her office is the first in the state to utilize a mobile application to directly distribute information to residents. “I feel this will be very beneficial for the county and provide convenience to the citizens,” Bedwell said.
Developed by TheGovApp.com, the app offers quick access to items of public interest like searching court cases, making payments to the clerk’s office, marriage licenses, and more.
Bedwell said the idea for the app came from Thomas Gofourth of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157. “I had him take a look at it and give me some ideas,” Bedwell said. “So far the feedback I’ve received so far has been very good.”
Gofourth says the app brings the clerk’s office out of the courthouse and into people’s homes.
“You can use this 24-7 to do the things you need to do with the clerk’s office,” Gofourth said. “To help facilitate our community that’s not able to get to the courthouse because they’re at work during the day.”
TheGovApp.com claims to have developed more than 500 apps for local governments, law enforcement agencies, and public safety organizations across the country.
“Over 80% of people in the United States own and use smartphones as their primary
means of communication,” OCV Vice President Kevin Cummings said. “Mobile apps offer
agencies a better way to alert, inform and prepare the public. Apps allow public safety agencies
the ability to reach and serve their citizens where they are: their smartphones.”
