TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Project Never Broken, an organization designed to advocate for the mental health of military, law enforcement, and first responders is hosting author Giovanni Rocco to share his story about his time spent as an undercover operative.
Project Never Broken was created to memorialize and honor 30-year veteran Terre Haute Police Officer Greg Ferency after his death on July 7, 2021.
“The message, really, the overall purpose, is to help those who maybe have never served in law enforcement or as a first responder to really understand there is a mental health component to doing that job as a result of the compound stress and trauma that they are exposed to daily,” said Shelley Klingerman executive director of Project Never Broken.
Rocco will be the keynote speaker during the event, sharing moments throughout his career while also discussing the struggles of mental health that come with the profession. Working as an undercover operative, Rocco infiltrated the mafia for three years and worked to uncover the crimes of a popular family that was later the subject of the popular TV show, The Sopranos.
The event will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Vigo County Historical Museum. There is a 25$ cost to attend the event and all proceeds will go to Project Never Broken funds.
“Everything we do is either based on request from our audience who we’re serving, which is again, that military, law enforcement, first responder community or it’s something that Greg would do or support or initiate if he were still here, so it’s been pretty natural to do this,” Klingerman said.
