TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Maggie & Moe’s Poplar Flower spread kindness throughout the community Wednesday by encouraging individuals to “Petal it Forward”.
The program allowed people to stop by one of Maggie & Moe’s three locations and pick up one free bouquet of flowers for themselves, and another to give to someone else.
The locations are the flower shop at 361 S. 18th Street, the Coffee at the Sycamore Farmhouse at 5001 E. Poplar, or Coffee at Regional Hospital at 3901 S. 7th Street.
“Petal it Forward” runs until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, or while supplies last.
“We’re actually already almost out of flowers and I believe it is only 10:30 a.m. I know that we’ve had years in the past where people line up all down the street for this but we do have more locations now so we think that’s been able to help even things out a little bit,” Madeline Aurelio, Maggie & Moe’s employee, said.
She said the idea is to spread joy, and show the positive emotional impact that flowers can have.
Maggie & Moe’s employees were also out and about handing out single roses with a card attached explaining the initiative.
Aurelio said she hopes they were able to get someone to do a random act of kindness, and put a smile on someone’s face.
“Our main goal is just to spread joy like I said throughout the Wabash Valley. I know a lot of times people come in and sometimes flowers can be for a sad occasion or sympathy or something like that and just being able to hand someone flowers for no reason at all just really brightens their day,” Aurelio said.
“Petal it Forward” is in partnership with the Society of American Florists.
