ST. BERNICE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – One person was arrested and a juvenile critically injured following a crash Wednesday involving an ATV and a car in Vermillion County.
Officials with the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened just after 6:30 pm near Jonestown Rd. and CR 200 W.
An ATV reportedly being driven by a juvenile was crossing Jonestown Rd. northbound on CR 200 W when he was struck by a vehicle traveling east on Jonestown Rd.
The juvenile was critically injured and flown to an Indianapolis hospital.
The driver of the car Donovan Helton, 24, of Clinton was arrested at the scene.
Donovan was taken to Union Hospital Clinton for chemical testing, as is required after any accident involving serious bodily injury.
Authorities said his results showed that he tested positive for multiple narcotics.
He is being charged with the following:
- OVWI – Causing serious bodily injury (Level 6 felony)
- OVWI – Endangerment (A Misdemeanor)
- Reckless driving (A Misdemeanor)
- False Informing (A Misdemeanor)
The juvenile is reportedly in stable but still critical condition.
An Indiana State Police (ISP) accident re-constructionist and crime scene investigator were on the scene to assist in the investigation.
