TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute woman is facing several charges including reckless driving and aggravated battery after crashing her car into three Terre Haute police cars during a high-speed chase Saturday night.
Brandi Hacker, 49, was caught by police driving “recklessly around other motorists” at speeds near 100 mph. Instead of stopping, Hacker led officers on a pursuit through the areas of Wabash Avenue, Brown Avenue and Oakland Street, according to the Terre Haute Police Department.
Hacker stopped repeatedly and appeared to be “celebrating to music” during the pursuit, according to witnesses. She finally came to a stop in the area of Wabash Avenue and Oakland Street; however, she “refused commands to exit the vehicle,” police said.
Hacker then accelerated in reverse toward one officer, striking the front of his police car. She then accelerated her vehicle forward striking a second police car. The pursuit ended after police used stop sticks and Hacker drove her car head-on into a third police car near Fenwood and Oakland.
Officers had to taser Hacker to prevent her from trying to drive again.
She was treated at a local hospital before being transported to the Vigo County Jail.
No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Police said they are currently looking for the driver of a white Jeep who made multiple attempts to stop Hacker’s vehicle using his Jeep. According to police, the actions of the unidentified driver interfered with officers’ attempts to stop Hacker and were “extremely dangerous to others.” Anyone with information is urged to contact the Terre Haute Police Department.
