COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — A two-vehicle crash Sunday has resulted in the death of two Coles County residents and the injury of two others.
The crash occurred on May 29th at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of 500 East and 1200 North.
According to the Coles County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Douglas Wilson Jr of Charleston was headed west on 1200 N and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with 500 E and struck a second vehicle driven by Rachel A. Sutton, 44, of Humboldt.
The force of the collision caused both vehicles to continue into a field west of the intersection.
The vehicle driven by Wilson overturned and ejected both Wilson and his passenger, 19-year-old Jennavive G. Williams of Charleston, before catching fire.
Both Wilson and Williams were airlifted to a nearby hospital. Police were unable to provide the current status of their injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle, Rachel Sutton as well as her passenger James H. Sutton, 55, of Humboldt were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation, The Sheriff’s Office says any potential charges would come later pending the results of their investigation.
