TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man was arrested after a situation involving the Terre Haute Police Department’s Special Response Unit Wednesday.
According to THPD Sgt. Ryan Adamson, the incident occurred when officers were called to a residence near 19th St. and First Ave. Wednesday afternoon for a domestic dispute call. Adamson says when officers arrived the suspect had a juvenile and his grandmother in the house and was refusing to communicate with police.
Fearing a possible hostage situation, the THPD Special Response Team was called in.
Adamson says the team convinced the man to allow the juvenile and elderly woman to leave, but the suspect refused to surrender.
Police were eventually able to enter the house and placed the suspect, James J. Ready, 41, under arrest.
Ready has been charged with:
- Domestic Battery-Adult in presence of a child less than 16 years old – level 6 Felony
- Confinement – level 6 Felony
Ready appeared in Vigo Superior Court 4 Thursday morning for a probable cause hearing. No contact orders for Ready and the others involved have been put in place.
