CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man is in custody after fleeing law enforcement and hiding in a wooded area, forcing deputies to use a K9 to track his location.
29-year-old Sean M. Stephens faces a level 6 felony charge of resisting arrest with a motor vehicle.
According to Clay County Chief Deputy Josh Clarke, a deputy had attempted to pull over Stephens’ 1992 black GMC truck near the area of US Hwy 40 and CR 200 W, but when the deputy turned on his emergency flashing lights the truck sped up instead of pulling over.
Police report the truck eventually drove off the road and became stuck in the mud near CR 550 N and CR 200 W. Once stuck Stephens reportedly jumped from the vehicle and ran into a wooded area nearby. A Clay County Sheriff’s Office K9 tracked the location of Stephens and eventually found him hiding in an area of dense brush where he was arrested without further incident.
Brazil City Police and Indiana State Police assisted in the search.
