SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College gathered Wednesday, the first day of Lent, for a peace prayer vigil regarding Russia and Ukraine.
The prayer vigil was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on the college’s campus. The event was free and open to the public.
Those who attended spent 30 minutes in prayer for the people of Ukraine, Russia and all other nations affected. Sister Barbara Battista said gathering for prayer can make a big difference.
“That is part of what it means to lift our hearts and our minds, and our whole being in prayer,” Sister Battista said. “That we recognize that we can perhaps share in the tiniest little bit of their suffering by sitting here in solidarity.”
Sister Battista also said the group may have more plans for prayer events in the future.
