TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man was arrested for aggravated battery Wednesday afternoon after leading authorities on a chase down I-70.
According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a battery at approximately 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Old Paris Road and Bennett Lane in West Terre Haute. Prior to arrival, units were told a female victim had cuts to her neck and wrist and the Sugar Creek Fire Department responded to the scene as well.
Vigo County dispatch told deputies the possible suspect vehicle was being followed by another vehicle. Eventually, authorities were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle traveling west on Interstate 70.
Deputies said they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle but the suspect vehicle allegedly continued west on Interstate 70 traveling into Illinois, failing to stop. Police said Illinois authorities soon took the lead in pursuing the suspect vehicle.
Ultimately, police said, the vehicle stopped on I-70 and Illinois authorities took the suspect, 29-year-old Seth Whitner of Terre Haute, into custody without incident. Whitner was then taken back to Indiana and booked into the Vigo County Jail and is being charged with aggravated battery.
Police said the victim, whose name is not being released at this time, was transported to Union Hospital for her injuries. There, she was taken into surgery and is currently listed in stable condition.
