TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: A suspect has been arrested and taken to the Vigo County jail according to Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames.
A State Police vehicle was involved in a crash Wednesday night in Terre Haute while pursuing a stolen vehicle.
According to ISP Sgt. Matt Ames, several state police units were in pursuit of a vehicle that was allegedly stolen out of Illinois when the collision occurred. As the ISP vehicle was at the intersection of 3rd Street and Ohio Street, Ames said, a motorist did not see the police emergency lights and crashed into the ISP vehicle.
No injuries were reported from the incident, Ames said. As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, no lanes were closed on 3rd Street and a wrecker service was on scene to remove the two damaged vehicles. Ames reports the four individuals who were in the vehicle that crashed into the police vehicle were released at the scene.
Ames also said that the suspect involved in the stolen vehicle case allegedly got out of the car and left it near the area while leaving on foot.
According to Ames, a West Terre Haute Police officer made the arrest, as the suspect was allegedly attempting to steal another car.
24-year-old Jeremy Restivo of Freeman Spurr, Ill. was arrested and charged with two counts of auto theft, resisting law enforcement, and reckless driving. He was then taken to the Vigo County Jail.
