WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Crews were on the scene of a house fire on Hollingsworth Place in West Terre Haute Wednesday morning.
According to New Goshen Fire Assistant Chief Matt Goodwin, the call came in at approximately 5:13 a.m. Firefighters were on scene a short time later, Goodwin said when they arrived they found the home was engulfed in flames and the roof had already collapsed.
The homeowner was there at the start of the fire and was able to escape safely. The house is considered a loss. Firefighters cleared the scene at 8:45 a.m.
According to Goodwin, the fire is believed to have been started by a heating unit of some form.
Assisting at the scene were firefighters from the Sugarcreek and Shepardsville departments.
