TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — UPDATE: Terre Haute Police officers responded to a wreck involving a train just after midnight in the early morning of Monday in Terre Haute.
According to a police crash report, the incident took place on Crawford Street at the intersection near 12th street in Terre Haute. When officers arrived on the scene they reported finding a Blue Chevy Suburban with heavy damage to its front end, but nobody inside.
Police located the driver at a nearby address on Gilbert Avenue, who told police he had been driving and lost power to his vehicle which then came to a stop at the railroad crossing. When talking to the train’s engineer, police state they were informed the engineer had seen the vehicle drive around the lowered crossing arm and come to a stop on the tracks.

Police report the driver, Carlos D Thompson, was driven to Union Hospital where he was given a blood draw test. After being cleared medically, Thompson was placed under arrest and taken to Vigo County Jail charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
