INDIANA (WTWO/WAWV) — Troopers with the Indiana State Police Putnamville post have responded to numerous crashes throughout the Wabash Valley since the winter storm started.
ISP troopers have also assisted with more than a dozen motorists.
One accident included a semi truck that slid off the roadway on I-70 eastbound Thursday morning near mile marker 15. Police say no one was hurt.
ISP is reminding people to slow down when driving on roadways and only to travel when absolutely necessary. Even if a road is plowed, police said, the wind can blow snow back onto the roadways.
ISP Sgt. Matt Ames shared a few things to keep in mind if you do have to get out.
“If you don’t have to get out, stay at home where it’s nice and warm,” Ames said. “But if you do have to get out, there are several things you can do to prepare your car. Number one, make sure that your vehicle is completely cleared up of all snow so that way all the lights can be seen. The front lights and the tail lights and make sure you have your headlights on. Make sure you’re driving at a reduced speed. Allow yourself an extra 30 to 45 minutes to reach your destination.”
Drivers are also being advised to keep distance between other motorists.
