TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Hundreds of schools throughout Indiana will be focusing on the overall health of students in February in honor of American Heart Month.
Throughout the month, 475 schools will participate in the American Heart Association’s “Kids Heart Challenge” and “American Heart Challenge”.
The goal is to promote the benefits of physical activity. Terre Haute North High School is one of the schools that will be participating.
“Our students are at an age where they’re learning about their health and what they do now in their adolescent years will very much affect their adult years,” Health Careers Teacher Terra Baughman said. “We focus on good nutrition, adequate hydration, and the difference in high cholesterol levels. Our students are taught to be active and to stay engaged and to be moving which is a big component of heart health as they get older.”
Funds raised during these programs will support the American Heart Association’s research and outreach.
