VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After years of planning and hard work, a ribbon cutting was held Monday for the new senior living community on the campus of Saint Mary of the Woods College.
The former Owens Hall has been converted into St. Mary’s Senior Living. The apartments are for people aged 55 and older. Additionally, 20% of the units will be for people with disabilities. The cost to rent one of these units varies, however, based on the resident’s income level.
The Sisters of Providence worked with Flaherty and Collins Developments to create what is now a 68 unit community.
“We hope the people who will come and live here will appreciate ‘The Woods’ the way we do,” General Superior of The Sisters of Providence, Dawn Tomaszewski said. “It’s a beautiful place. Not only will they live in a great apartment, there are places to walk, the college is here, those kinds of amenities. We have Providence Healthcare. So, we just feel like there is so much to offer here.”
Owens hall was originally built in 1958, it was first used as a dormitory.
