TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County School Corporation held a public listening session at Meadows Elementary School for community members to voice their concerns on the possible consolidation of Meadows on Wednesday night.
VCSC hosted this meeting ahead of the official vote concerning the possible consolidation on January 10th.
Dozens of community members voiced their opinion over the course of the 3 hour session. However, responses from board members was prohibited during the learning session, allowing up to 3 minutes of uninterrupted time for community members to speak.
Lawrence Flynn was in attendance and said that the structure of the session was difficult to get his questions answered.
“If it’s not a two-way street then I do not think that I’m going to be heard unless something is physically documented,” Flynn said. “And I do not think that that’s the case at this point.”
Flynn explained that he hopes the board takes into account all of the opinions and concerns of the community heard at the session before they vote next week.
“Hopefully by the end of the night the board is able to make an educated decision,” Flynn said.
Landen Berlin also spoke in front of the school board during the session. He questioned the board’s motive during his lecture.
“It appears they haven’t taken to the social and environmental factors and they’re just purely looking at it from an economic point of view,” Berlin said.
