TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – This week Indiana State University’s Bayh College of Education hosted a state-wide Reading and Math Summit.
The event was sponsored by Duke Energy and CenterPoint Energy. It welcomed K-12 teachers from across Indiana to ISU’s campus to hear from nationally recognized education speakers.
The Reading Summit took place Monday and the Math Summit happened Tuesday. Speakers led sessions on topics like classroom leadership and problem-based lesson planning. The Bayh College of Education’s interim dean, Brad Balch said getting to hold the summit in person was much needed after the last year and a half.
“Post-pandemic there have just been so many virtual options. But to be able to gather together in fellowship professionally develop and just take a deep breath and relax, um, was very refreshing. And I think for those teachers that participate of one of the most important aspects of teaching and that’s learning,” said Balch.
Most attendees were from Indiana, but organizers said that some educators attended the conference virtually from other states like Washington and Florida.
