TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Ivy Tech Community College announced Thursday it will begin offering a new academic program, called Cloud Technologies, to help close Indiana’s skills gap in cloud computing.
Graduates with an associate degree would be qualified for employment as system administrators, and other high-paying, in-demand career fields, according to a news release. Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Indiana mean wage for system administrators is $38.39 an hour and the annual mean salary is $79,860.
Cloud computing refers to running software and services on the Internet, instead of locally on a physical computer or server.
Employers in Indiana and nationwide are facing a large skills gap in cloud computing, which Ivy Tech’s new degree program will help address. According to 451 Research, 90% of organizations report shortages of cloud skills. Cloud computing has also remained one of the most in-demand hard skills for the past five years, according to LinkedIn.
“Employers are shifting to cloud platforms more quickly than they can employ cloud computing professionals,” Melanie Hurst, Ivy Tech department chair, said. “This new program will graduate new students with cloud skills, and also upskill existing I.T. professionals. Graduates will be able to enter the workforce immediately with industry-recognized certifications, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) certifications, which are in high-demand.”
Current I.T. professionals can earn the Ivy Tech Cloud Administrator certificate quickly to earn the following industry-recognized certifications: AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solution Architect and Network+.
Ivy Tech also offers the Cloud Technologies Technical Certificate and Cloud Technologies Associate of Applied Science degree. Associate degree graduates will earn CompTia A+, Network+, Security+, AWS Cloud Practitioner and AWS Cloud Solution Architect certifications.
Individuals could start pre-requisite classes in Ivy Tech’s Cloud Technologies program in spring 2022 and start program-level classes in fall. Information can be found at ivytech.edu/cloud-technologies.
