SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Before taking his own life, a local corner was communicating with a YouTuber posing as a 14-year-old girl, according to Indiana State Police.
ISP on Thursday released results of an investigation into Tracy Tackett who was serving as the Sullivan County coroner when a YouTube video surfaced containing allegations against him.
Forensic investigators looked at devices belonging to Tackett as well as the the person who created the YouTube video, according to ISP Sgt. Matt Ames.
Ames said investigators found evidence that Tackett traveled to Henderson, Ky. with the intent of meeting a 14-year-old girl; however, the YouTuber was only posing as a minor.
The incident serves as a reminder for parents to monitor their children’s social media accounts, Ames noted.
“Parents need to make sure that you’re paying attention to what your children are doing on their social media,” he said. “Whether they’re using SnapChat, Instagram, Facebook or any other devices or networks that are being used by young adults, they need to have open communication with them the entire time.
While Tackett was under investigation, he was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
