VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As Tropical Storm Ida continues to roll through southern states, many who live on the coast are beginning the recovery process.
The Helping His Hands Organization, based in Vincennes, Ind., plans to provide relief supplies to those affected by the storms. Director Scott Shipman said that his goal is to help those in need.
“We’ve been doing disaster response work for well over seventeen years,” Shipman said. “This is just what we do.”
Although Ida’s damage took place hundreds of miles away from Vincennes, Shipman still believes it is essential for Helping His Hands to provide as much aid as possible.
“Our hearts hurt for them because they’ve lost everything,” Shipman said. “But, this is an opportunity for us to go down and help people and love on them.”
COO Jason Burkhart said it is essential to provide help, as disasters can happen anywhere and affect anybody.
“As an American and a Christian, we want to help whoever we can,” Burkhart said. “Last year in Vincennes it was us that got hit with storm damage so it’s not if, but when.”
Helping His Hands plans to send supplies such as canned goods, toiletries and even generators to those affected by Ida.
