WABASH VALLEY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Many residents got a head start on their 4th of July festivities as they waited for local firework shows to fill the sky.
In downtown Vincennes, residents were able to visit different vendors as well as attend the parade. The Harmony Society also provided a place for people to have fun as they say they wanted to make sure the community enjoyed themselves.
“Family is the most important thing. I’ve participated in some way, shape or manor or form with the 4th of July,” Tony Jarrell, president of the Harmony Society said. “Of course the Harmony Society here, bands that are playing tonight, so we’re just wanting to be a part of our community.”
In West Terre Haute, Highland-Church had their annual 4th of July picnic for everyone in the community. Pastor Ryan Thomas says this year was full of excitement compared to last year at this time.
“Everybody was locked down and cancelled. Just kind of everybody to themselves,” Thomas said. “So nice to be able to celebrate Independence Day with our country, with our people, with our friends. To celebrate what our country was founded upon. Independence and being able to move and fellowship together and it’s been powerful.”
Jarrell who also participated in the Vincennes parade says this was a perfect time for things to return back to normal as the community celebrates one of his favorite holidays.
“Everybody is happy there’s people outside. We’re celebrating this,” Jarrell said. “I mean it’s a great time to be an American and 4th of July.”
