TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Indiana law regulates that fireworks can be shot an extra hour than normal on holidays.
The hours are from 9 a.m. to midnight on holidays, whereas normal hours are 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
However, there is an ordinance provision that prohibits a person to cause or permit any nuisance or annoyance of other people by the use of light, noise or sound mechanisms. This ordinance does not apply to fireworks.
“We know people are going to shoot fireworks, prepare the best you can for it. If people are being unsafe, or if they’re shooting fireworks after the designated time, feel free to call police and we can respond,” says Terre Haute Police Department Sergeant Ryan Adamson.
The Terre Haute Police Department will not respond to fireworks display calls until after 12 a.m. on holidays.
