VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – What began as a mental health call, put one person in custody Monday following a vehicle pursuit from Illinois into Indiana.
An Arkansas man allegedly made threats toward employees at the Casey’s gas station in Ridgefarm, IL.
Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Phelps says the man fled the scene in a vehicle when police arrived around 1:30 p.m. before leading them on a pursuit into Indiana that lasted almost two hours.
Phelps says he traveled north on SR 63 where the vehicle was stopped using stop-sticks at CR 900 South.
The pursuit came to end around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of SR 63 and CR 775 South, just south of U.S. Highway 36).
According to the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office, the man refused to get out of his vehicle after numerous verbal commands. The windows of his vehicle were blacked out, and it is unknown if anyone else was in the car or had weapons.
Terre Haute Police Department SWAT was requested, and took the man into custody following a short standoff and physical altercation. He was brought to a local hospital for medical and mental evaluation.
