VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In a ceremony at Gregg Park, the Vincennes Civitan Club honored local healthcare workers as the 2020 and 2021 Citizens of the Year by unveiling a new park bench and planting three trees.
While the event has honored individuals in the past, this year’s ceremony recognizes healthcare workers and volunteers as a group. The Civitan Club wanted to thank those who have protected the community during the pandemic.
“They put their life on the line to protect everybody and we feel like they truly deserve more recognition than this, but I think this is a nice way of saying thank you,” said Civitan Club president Amy Kaiser.
The club’s Citizen of the Year Award has been presented to 60 recipients since 1954.
